65th ANNIVERSARY
On the morning of June 3rd 2009 the D-Day Revisited group left Ellesmere Port bound for Normandy with a group of 40 veterans, 5 sons, 14 wives/girlfriends, 2 carers, 2 paramedics, 2 nurses, 5 members of the Cheshire Yeomanry, 1 coach driver and 15 helpers.
In short we spent 5 days in France and had a truly
incredible time. Most importantly we all came back in one piece! Here are some comments from the veterans...
“We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Normandy, especially as not only did they provide the cash but the team worked like Trojans to ease us over this emotional trip. It wasn’t limited to duties with us but shared with all at Arromanches square where they attempted to find a seat for everyone! Indeed we were proud and the incredible work they put in will not be forgotten.”
“So many highlights of a wonderful tour but our visit to Thury-Harcourt with Ralph took the prize, followed by our visit to Sainte-Mère-Église which was very moving. And we will always remember our rainy rebellion at Arromanches! Thanks to all involved in organising this wonderful trip.”
“I do not think anything could have spoiled the trip. All those helpers, medics etc were absolutely brilliant in their efforts to make sure nothing could go wrong. I enjoyed the trip beyond words.”
“Thank you so much for the wonderful pilgrimage you gave to the Veterans. I will enjoy going over everything that happened and reliving the memories. We all loved and respected you.”
